I received all sorts of wonderful little gifts and tokens for my birthday. I’m so appreciative and thankful for all the love.
My mom sent a bromeliad (apparently I don’t have the greenest thumb) and a very large tray of candies to my office as a surprise. Yayyy! Just the fact that she goes out of her way to have things delivered to me year after year excites me so much.
When I offered the candies to the office I was asked why my mother would send me candies from a family business and then send me so much. I didn’t understand. I was told that it is not much of a gift if it’s something you can get every day and something you have to end up giving away.
My short response was that (1) it was the thought that counted and (2) I’m certain the intention was for me to share and if it allows me to share something with everyone then it’s even more of a gift because receiving is in giving.
We hear this a lot, but do we really believe it? I do. I’ve proven it time and time again.
We need to remember this principle and live by it. When you operate from a place of love and with a willingness to give, you open yourself to receive so much more. When you operate from a negative or selfish place your world is not open to all the blessings available. Why? Your energy is focused on how to keep what you have or how to “take” from others instead of being open and available to give and receive freely.
Simple example; I shared that tray of candies and someone who forget it was my birthday was then reminded by it. Unknown to me, she immediately went out, bought a card and stuffed it with money! Now, my receiving the money is not a great big deal, although I’m appreciative. All I’m saying is when you operate from a place that wants to give freely, you allow yourself to receive more freely.
On this Fabulous Friday here’s a challenge….
I challenge you to pick up my giving habit.
This week, give $1 daily to someone, anyone! Someone who may be asking for money on the street; Buy a coworker their favorite soda or chocolate bar; Give someone a ride and save them the bus fare.
If you forget or don’t have a chance, add the $1’s up and still give it away; When someone puts something back they can’t afford in the grocery store, buy it for them.
Open your heart to giving, you’ll be so blessed by what you receive. Sometimes a thank you and a smile will touch your heart more than any material thing that $1 you gave away ever could.
Happy Friday yall!

First, it amazes me that someone would even question the gift giving by someone else. 2nd, do they not realize that anything anyone purchases can also be bought by someone else so whether the receiver can “get it all the time” or not, should not be the point of the giving at all. For anyone who missed the point as Raeh so eloquently points out, just know this: as long as I have breath and the ability to do so, I will continue to shower my child with whatever I think will bring her joy, just as I do when giving a gift to anyone. PS – I sure hope that person did not have the nerve to enjoy any of your treats!!!! lol Peace and love.
Mummy run hot!
She ENJOYED the candies mummy! LOL!
I’m happy to say that she really didn’t have a bad attitude about it, I think she just didnt know any better. The minute I responded she said thank you for that point of view because she had never realized it before. Thank goodness we can all learn from each other.
Thanks again and KEEP showering me chall, I love it!
… and besides, why would I not support a family business???? Seems like a sensible thing to do to me!!!!
