My friend bought me 4 lemons yesterday. I need at least one lemon everyday.
Anyone that knows me knows I need to drink tea almost every morning. My colleagues have also seen my starbucks fix often enough to know I like some good coffee from time to time.
A few months ago I stopped using tea bags. A friend advised me to try natural teas…like bush teas, using tree leaves or fruit teas using fruit pulp. There were too many unnecessary preservatives in tea bags. So a new habit was born. Lemon mint tea. I remember emailing my mom about it and she said squeezing lemon in water and drinking it was an old tradition for detoxifying the body. Even more health advantages, so I started making lemon tea, squeezing the lemon, a bit of lemon zest and smashing a mint leaf and honey together. Voila, my sweet special lemon tea.
Fast forward to last week. I moved houses and was waiting for my refrigerator. So I didn’t have any lemons. Went to my office wanting tea and had to use a tea bag. The taste was awful. I did not even finish the cup. I couldn’t believe myself. I had been drinking this stuff for years and a 2 month habit change later and now I couldn’t stand it.
Hmmmmm. I thought, if I could have that same change for all of my BAD habits I would be pleased. So I’m working on more new habits to replace the bad or not so progressive ones, but Truth be told I have already changed many of them. Even with so much more work to do I am a testimony that habit changes work.
If we take the time and make the effort to DO something different long enough AND with a clear objective in mind. We can choose to be successful, happy, balanced, inspired and full of life if we MAKE the habit to do so.
I passed starbucks many mornings tempted to stop in for a venti cafe americano with hazelnut, steamed milk and 3 brown sugars (#getofftweet, lol) but I thought about my objective of better health and kept driving. Simple. Went to my office and loved me some lemon mint tea.
I NEVER got up early unless I HAD to. Now I am a self proclaimed morning person
. This one still is hard, but I’m tryna be wealthy, I gat thangs to do.
What habits do you need to create to make your life more healthy, successful, happy, balanced?
For habits to change, change them daily. No excuse. Whether you feel like it or not. Make time, don’t excuse yourself because you worked late or woke up late or the dog died and cat cried. YOU deserve to give yourself the extra time and energy. Don’t bet your life’s success and happiness on the current demands and habits of your life that you aren’t happy with. It just doesn’t make good sense. CREATE the life you dream of by creating new habits.
My friends who come to my house have seen my habit tracker….they’ve seen all my ‘crazy’ boards and charts and letters I have posted up on my fridge and in my house. Seeing these things everyday help me create new habits. I’ll give you guys a peek….
